The NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 1GB is a mid-range video card in the GeForce 600-series. It is built on the same technology as the higher-end 600-series cards, but with a much smaller set of graphics processing cores and a reduced memory channel. This gives it lower performance, but also lower power draw and heat output - which is helped further by the 28nm manufacturing process the 600-series uses.
This generation of GeForce cards also features improved multi-monitor support, with all three of the ports the GT 640 has - VGA, DVI, and HDMI - being usable at the same time. In addition to that, the GT 640 inherits other features common to NVIDIA graphics cards: it supports CUDA, DX11, PhysX, and NVIDIA 3D Vision technology.
