Assembly and Cabling

Assembly and Cabling

We have received a lot of praise here at Puget for the time and care we put into proper assembly of our computers. Within each workstation we build, components are positioned to avoid creating hot spots and to maximize cooling efficiency. We also take great care to run all the cabling so it does not restrict air flow, and so that it looks great if you ever need to open the system up and work on it!

PCC, you did it again! My 2nd system from you, a Sager 9890 with all the goodies, is better than I could have imagined. I have to commend Richard who advised me to drop a few unnecessary extras and to add a 2nd internal HD (which by the way is not a feature available in your configuration menu). This is not a machine for lightweights! It has all the muscle I need for PremierPro video and Photoshop editing.

I researched other big name computer companies, but they couldn’t come close to the features and value of this system. Well done, guys!

Overall I’m pleased. From my first email (sent on a Sunday and got a response Sunday evening!) to any questions regarding my configuration I got quick responses and generally good answers. After the order was placed, things did change a little. I did have 1 problem that occurred twice. Upon receiving the system, I was unable to boot and got an error message saying “system failed memory test”. Paul walked through some trouble shooting with me over the phone (some things I had already tried, some I had not) and it was decided that either the CPU/heatsink had become unseated during shipping, or the motherboard was bad. I sent it back, and tracked the progress through the Puget website.

It was fixed the day it was received, retested and then sent out. I was disappointed that I had to request they send it to me using the faster shipping method I had paid for. There was no arguement from their end, but I figured it would be automatic that it would be shipped back to me at the same speed/via the same service which I had originally paid (twice the cost of ground) for.

Upon getting it the second time, the problem was still there. Same message. I called and talked to Paul, then called and left a message for Jon and got a call back from Paul again. I basically wanted a second opinion, but was unable to get ahold of Jon, when he had constantly been the person to reply to my initial emails. Felt somewhat like he was avoiding me now that there was a problem, but again, not a big deal.

Anyway, I was told that the shippers in my area must be very rough. When I sent the system back, they found that the heatsink (XP-120) had in fact been knocked loose (just slightly) during shipping. After Paul basically telling me that the options were to get it fixed locally (voiding Puget support) or sending it back in (which would probably get damaged again during shipping) I stewed for a couple days about what to do. I’ve built some systems before, but Paul reiterated many times that he would recommend I not try to fix it myself. Ultimately, I did fix it myself and it works fine. One of the 4 clips that holds the heatsink in place wasn’t totally snapped into place and just had to be guided into place with a flathead screwdriver and some downward pressure. Very simple fix, but I guess in the name of not having someone work on the system themselves (not fully knowing their skill level), Puget prefers to pay shipping rather than risk someone breaking anything. Again, understandable, but frustrating. It is a somewhat intimidating looking heatsink compared to most, but generally, the same installation steps.

Since fixing that problem, it has run mostly fine. The only hiccups have been minor hardware conflicts. My router causes some little annoyances when connected to one of the two network adapters on the motherboard
(disconnecting but easy to reconnect). It works great through the other one though. Other than that, it has worked just fine.

I do feel the prices are a bit steep. I was planning on building my own system, but didn’t know when I was going to have the time to devote to building/testing a new system. So, I opted to go with Puget since they mostly had the parts I wanted and had very good reviews regardless of where I looked. Building the same system myself, I would have been able to save about $500 – $700. Seems like a bit much considering the extra payment was basically to save myself build/testing time -but I knew the cost before I ordered, it just hits harder in hindsight due to having to send it back, and ultimately fix the problem myself anyway.

I have been going to their website for over a year now, and building machines that I imagined I would buy if I had won the lottery. You could spend 10K easily. However, when it really came time to purchase, I stepped into reality and got an excellent and powerful 2.5K machine. Jon recommended an upgrade to the CPU based on the possibility of video editing in the future, and suggested a trade off in hard disk configuration to make it cost about the same (actually slightly less.) I got good response as I pestered them with email during the build process, and Jon modified the standard system testing to include the VIVO of my graphics card. He also answered a 2:00 AM email in less than 15 minutes! Your mileage may vary, I guess he happened to be up. The system arrived in a very sturdy package that protected it perfectly. In the intervening 2 weeks, I have not found any issues with the build or hardware. I really could have built the system myself, but the standard one year of full warranty INCLUDING SHIPPING was worth the slight amount I could have saved. All of the accessories from the RETAIL version of the components (not the OEM) were shipped in a box clearly labled “What’s all this stuff?” I am a happy camper and I will be stearing my friends and family to PCC for ever if they keep up this level of service and quality.

I have always preferred to build my own system but this time I decided to give Puget Computers a try given the great feedback I’ve seen from all over the net. What I got was some exceptional service the likes I’ve never seen before. The communication is great! Jon was patient enough to answer my questions as I went through the process of picking out the components. These guys even let me pick out a case that they did not carry! This how you make a customer happy.

Overall, I’m very happy with the service. The pricing is a tad bit high, but I’ll be referring my friends here and continue to shop here in the future.

Another great transaction with Puget. They were willing to work with me for a couple months while I worked the system into my budget, and had no problems advising me against more expensive or unnecessary parts to save me money. I mistakingly ordered 3 UV Blue IDE cables for my computer (the motherboard only has 2 slots), and didn’t even notice that the hard drive was SATA. I called them the day it was to be shipped out (it was already built and in testing) and asked them if I coudl substitute the extra IDE cable for a UV Blue SATA cable, so all would match. They told me they noticed that when building it, and already installed the UV cable for me, free of charge! I received the computer, and not only was the cable in there, they still gave me all 3 cables I originally paid for. Its this sort of attention to detail and customer satisfaction that made me a repeat customer, and I’ll continue to recommend them to friends.

I purchased a beautiful custom built computer from Puget a little before the winter holidays. They listened carefully to my needs and desires and helped me design an efficient and affordable system. I could not believe how quickly they built it and sent it – regardless of the holiday interruptions. I wanted to make sure it was not too good to be true before writing this testimonial. The computer is working perfectly and the people at Puget were most helpful with my initial questions starting up the system. I highly recommend the Puget people.

EXCELLENT! My computer is fantastic. All of the people at PCC offered exceptional customer service, and product knowledge. I have been watching this company for a while now, and I did some research on other custom computer places, but none offered the same personal experience as PCC did. I’ve have, and will continue to highly recommend this company for any computer needs.
