Hi. My name is Alicia and I am one of the newer employees here at Puget. I am the administrative assistant and the first person people see when they enter our office or speak to over the phone.
In an effort to get more people in the sales and service team to write more, I have been enlisted to write my first post. Writing has never been my strong suit, and since I do not have any technical background, I was nervous selecting a topic on which to write. But my manager said I could write about ANYTHING so I’ll take him up on that and write about something that is important to me; transitioning from a SAHM (stay at home mom) to a working mom at Puget Systems.
I recently came back to the office workplace when my youngest daughter began kindergarten. Although I have a degree in Business Administration, I haven’t had a 9-to-5 job since 2009. It has been a change reporting to work each day compared to spending time at home with my daughters. I thought it would be more challenging returning to work than it has been. I think the company I work for and the positive atmosphere has really played a huge roll in the fact that I don’t have very much “mom guilt” working away from home. I like what I do. I like coming to work. And I love the fact that I feel productive and challenged. Believe it or not, I feel less stress having a full time job than I did being a stay-at-home-mom. For me, when I am in a good work environment, I am in a better mood, therefore I perform better at work.
I used to manage a small construction company-which I loved, but the expectations weren’t as high as they are at Puget, and that’s a good thing. With 28 employees, Puget is officially the largest company I have worked for, but at the same time, I feel like I have a better relationship with the people I work with than I ever had at the small companies I worked for in the past.
Since my desk in located in the lobby, I get to greet everyone and have a conversation with them every day; whether they are just coming in to work, grabbing coffee from the Keurig machine or walking by on their way into a meeting.
Puget Systems is unlike any other company I have worked for. I am always learning, problem solving or being asked to gain more knowledge. Whether it is being put in charge of a large project, studying for my CompTIA A+ exam, or training the team on phone skills, I feel like an integral addition to the company.
I love their mission statement:
“We believe that computers should be a pleasure to purchase and own. They should get your work done, and not be a hindrance.”
From managers on down to production; staff genuinely care that each customer is treated with respect and provided the best experience when purchasing a new computer.
As a mom, I want to make a difference if I’m going to be away from home, I feel like I’m given that opportunity at Puget Systems.
